Everybody has their fantasy league and we know that there are plenty of people that play in a league with IDP included but it is very rare to have an ALL-IDP League. That’s right, you’re reading it correctly. The Blitz Invitational is ALL Independent Defensive Players and no offensive players included.
The Blitz Invitational is by far the most difficult fantasy league I participate in each year, as it includes some of the fantasy industry’s biggest names in the IDP community. Senior writers, radio personalities, and webmasters from all around the globe. And YES, before you ask, one of our owners is from Sweden. Having knowledge of the NFL is a must but being an IPD expert is mandatory if you want to keep afloat in this league.
Week 8 Recap: What a bunch of big fat hairy smelly stinky bull sh!t. I’ve lost three in a row now and it’s just damned bad luck. This week was special though. Our opponent had Justin Durant on a strong come-back week, Julius Peppers took an Interception back for a TD, and rookie Jairus Byrd snagging two more picks didn’t help at all either. Throw in Jonathan Vilma and Weapon-X, aka - Brian Dawkins, this thing got out of hand fast!
It didn’t really matter who I started, as my opponent could have started any combination of players to beat me this week. It was nice to see the staff’s favorite safety, Gerald Sensabaugh, turn in a solid performance again but outside of James Laurinaitis, DeMeco Ryans, and Antoine Bethea the IDP Report squad didn’t show up this week. What’s even more concerning is the lack of tackles from rookie Derek Cox, who up until now had been extremely consistent in that department.
It just wasn’t our week but you can see our mediocre showing first hand for yourself below . . .
Scoring System: 2pts for solo tackles, 1pt for assists, 2pts for every o.5 sack, 4pts for an INT, 1pt for passes defensed, 3pts for a forced fumble, 3pts for a fumble recovery, 6pts for a safety, and of course 6pts for a TD.
Week 8 Preview: I almost want to stop this blog until we get a “W” but that might mean that we’d be closing up shop for the ‘09 season. Seriously though, this week we’re going up against our good buddy Geary Johnson, aka - RAZOR. Razor always has a solid fantasy team regardless of scroing format, time of year, or even luck of the draw. He’s a very competitive owner and has had many league titles that I have participated in.
He’s got a heck of a team this year with Jerod Mayo, Trent Cole, and Aaron Curry just to name a few but I’m feeling pretty luck this week, regardless of being without James Laurinaitis and Aaron Schobel on byes. The team isn’t that far off and I still like my nucleus a lot, plus, Razor doesn’t have the help of Mr Paul Posluszny and that’s a big blow to his team. Here’s a look at his projected startign lineup for the weekend. . .
Starting Requirements: 11 Total Starters; DTs: 1-2, DEs: 2 LBs: 1-4, CBs: 1-5, Ss: 1-2
Razor’s Edge - Geary “Razor” Johnson
DT Brandon Mebane(SEA) vs Lions
DE Trent Cole(PHI) vs Cowboys
DE Michael Johnson(CIN) vs Ravens
LB Keith Brooking(DAL) at Eagles
LB Aaron Curry(SEA) vs Lions
LB Jerod Mayo(NEP) vs Dolphins
LB Scott Shanle(NOS) vs Panthers
CB Ronde Barber(TBB) vs Packers
CB Terrence Newman(DAL) at Eagles
S Thomas DeCoud(ATL) vs Redskins
S Brandon McGowan(NEP) vs Dolphins
It SHOULD be a close game but you can’t ever guarantee anything in this league. While it’s nice to see Posluszny on the bench for my opponent, we have our fare share of players on bye as well. I think we have a good shot at eaking out a victory but we’ll have to wait and see what happens on Sunday Bloody Sunday.
You can check out the craziness of the match-up from week 9 right here. . .
Razor’s Edge (6-2) at Minielf Mercenaries (4-4) <= Live Matchup Link
We’ll be back next week to tell the tale and keep you up to date with the madness that is the Blitz Invitational!!!
