Everybody has their fantasy league and we know that there are plenty of people that play in a league with IDP included but it is very rare to have an ALL-IDP League. That’s right, you’re reading it correctly. The Blitz Invitational is ALL Independent Defensive Players and no offensive players included.
The Blitz Invitational is by far the most difficult fantasy league I participate in each year, as it includes some of the fantasy industry’s biggest names in the IDP community. Senior writers, radio personalities, and webmasters from all around the globe. And YES, before you ask, one of our owners is from Sweden. Having knowledge of the NFL is a must but being an IPD expert is mandatory if you want to keep afloat in this league.
Week 9 Recap: Whew! Barely snuck by Razor this week with both teams going over 130pts in the match-up. I do have to say barely because my opponent made a key mistake this week, as Bernard Pollard and his 36pts were left on his bench. The rest of Razor’s squad came ready to play with Jerod Mayod throwing down 7 solo tackles and 5 assists, while Brandon McGowan blew up with eight solos 3 assists, and a forced fumble. Racking up 132pts in a week is no small task but not enough to keep the mighty Minielf Mercenaries from our 5th victory.
Daryl Smith playing the game of his life certainly helped, as the Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket tallied 8 total tackles and 1.5 sacks. DeMeco Ryans, Gary Brackett, Derek Cox, and Antoine Bethea all went for 5 tackles or more, which entitles them each to a 2pt bonus for the game. The star of the week in my eyes has to be Gerald Sensabaugh though. The guy keeps producing and not only racked up 6 total tackles for us, he threw in an interception on the day that helped seal the victory.
We got a kiss from lady luck this last week but you can see first hand for yourself below . . .
Scoring System: 2pts for solo tackles, 1pt for assists, 2pts for every o.5 sack, 4pts for an INT, 1pt for passes defensed, 3pts for a forced fumble, 3pts for a fumble recovery, 6pts for a safety, and of course 6pts for a TD.
Week 10 Preview: I’d better celebrate my victories in this league when I am lucky enough to get them because it’s another mountain to scale this week. Doug O’Neil - a.k.a. “Wrecking Crew”, who is the biggest Giants fan I know of, is our next opponent. While his team is only 2-7, that’s not due to lack of talent with a roster that includes Brian Cushing, Ray Lewis, and Antoine Winfield. Fortunately for me, it looks like Antoine Winfield won’t be playing and Brian Cushing is on his bye for week 10.
Our team will be without the services of DeMeco Ryans and it also appears that stud defensive end Aaron Schobel will be a game-time decision. We do have James Laurinaitis back and with safety help like Antoine Bethea and Gerald Sensabaugh, our team should be ready to compete this week. We’re going to need a lot of help from the defensive line but it’s not looking good if Schobel doesn’t play. Here’s a look at his projected starting lineup for the weekend. . .
Starting Requirements: 11 Total Starters; DTs: 1-2, DEs: 2 LBs: 1-4, CBs: 1-5, Ss: 1-2
Wrecking Crew - Doug O’Neil
DT Albert Haynesworth(WAS) vs Broncos
DE William Hayes(TEN) vs Bills
DE Lawrence Jackson(SEA) at Cardinals
LB Andra Davis(DEN) at Redskins
LB Elvis Dumervil(DEN) at Redskins
LB Dhani Jones(CIN) at Steelers
LB Ray Lewis(BAL) at Browns
CB Zackary Bowman(CHI) at 49ers -> 7pts
CB Leigh Bodden(NEP) at Colts
S Brodney Pool(CLE) vs Ravens
S Craig Dahl(STL) vs Saints
It looks to be a productive LB corps even without “The Cush” with RayRay, Dhani Jones, and Andra Davis all having good match-ups for tackles. We’ll need an all-pro performance from John Abraham if Aaron Schobel can’t go but I do love the fact that Ernie Sims is now out indefinitely with a torn hamstring, which makes our boy DeAndre Levy a 3-down LB. All I can say, is that’s pretty damn good value from the 325th over-all pick of this league’s draft.
You can check out the craziness of the match-up from week 10 right here. . .
