THREE & OUT - Week 11

By Joe Everett on Wednesday, 18th November 2009

Three and OutAlright Folks, It’s time for the latest installment of THREE & OUT. A weekly column featuring one of the bigger stories of the weekend, a nice pick up for your IDP league, a must-start matchup, and player that needs to be on your bench this upcoming week.

What a tough week with madd props going out to Julius Peppers, who played the majority of last week’s game w/ a broken hand. In a league littered with players only out for the almighty dollar, that really said a lot about Peppers. Not sure what to make of Titans owner Bud Adams w/ the middle fingers. WTF? I mean, you already pummeled the Jills and the few faithful there, you decide to give the ultimate salute to?

Breaking News, Jay Cutler just threw another interception. Seriously, Cutler sucked like a hoover and gave out INTs like candy at halloween. Lance Briggs and Pat Willis were status quo, but it’s nice to see Hunter Hillenmeyer back at the MLB, he’s still a nice start in tackle heavy leagues.

The issue that’s still got me thinking and that we’ll be tackling on tonight’s IDP Report Radio Show is defensive rookie of the year. It’s obvious that I have a man-crush on James Laurinaitis but Houston’s 1st round pick Brian Cushing has been just as good if not better and he’s also got a knack for making big plays. Then there’s the young phenom from Oregon, Jairus Byrd who has been the definition of the term “Ball-Hawk” with a league-leading ## INTs and he hasn’t even been a full-time start all year long. It’s going to be great to see how this one plays out and it’s just another reason to keep watching.

On that note, it’s time to find you some waiver players in the latest edition of “3 & Out”. . .

mia

LB Channing Crowder - Miami Dolphins

Well it’s about ####ing time! This guy was last seen wearing an orange Dolphins uniform and you may recognize him from the side of your milk carton. Due to a shoulder injury the inside linebacker was inactive in the past two games but he appears to be healthy, as evidence of his 9 solo tackles and sack against the Buccaneers. Channing Crowder was a very consistent source of tackle numbers for fantasy owners in years past and this last game brought back memories of ‘08 when he had 92 tackles. I think he’s turned a corner and will have some value in the games ahead.

S Bryan Scott - Buffalo Bills

The firing of Dick Jauron can’t really hurt the Bills IDPs, as the offense might be worse which would result in even more time on the field for the defense. . . if that’s possible. The story here is that Bryan Scott is now playing as the Bills weak-side linebacker for the injured Keith Ellison but the fact that he’s designated as a safety makes him a terrific IDP play. Scott is a solid tackler and he was having a great start of the season before an ankle injury caused him to miss 6 games. I’ll take the tackle numbers of a linebacker from my DB slot any day of the week. He’s a must start as long as Ellison is out with his quad injury.

jac

S Sean Considine - Jacksonville Jaguars

Is this the DB issue? I know right! Well, there’s some good numbers to be had here and it’s a result of a Resean Mathis groin injury. With Mathis out for a few games, Reggie Nelson will now play at corner and that will make Sean Considine a three-down safety for the next few weeks. Considine isn’t the best in coverage but he can provide good tackle numbers, especially with teams throwing the ball non-stop ont he Jags. If you’re sitting there nursing an injured Antoine Winfield and you need somebody to tide you over, this might be the perfect opportunity to wait it out a few more weeks.

bal

LB Ray Lewis(BAL) vs Indianapolis Colts

I know that he’s been so damn consistent and you just can’t bring yourself to bench a proven veteran but I’m telling you that the Colts just don’t give up a lot of pts to LBs, sure Gary Guyton just got 8 solos but that game was just a little bit different in the scheme of things when considering the Colts. Ray Lewis just won’t have a lot of looks in this game. I’m looking at a Ravens secondary that is a shell of its former self and I’d imagine that Peyton Manning will be throwing the ball deep more than the Colts will go to the ground against this suspect defensive backfield that is not doing a good job of stopping the pass. I’m taking a pass on Ray Lewis this time around.
